There is considerable evidence that Josiah Nichols (1), born ca.1757, was the son of Daniel Nichols of Danbury, Connecticut, but a connection to that line is not supported by the DNA results. The following descent is well documented, so further research is necessary to determine where the non-matching DNA came from.

 

1.  JOSIAH NICHOLS, born ca. 1757 in Danbury, Connecticut. Married Anna (Nancy Ann) Wilkinson of Danbury. Moved to Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Henrietta, New York. Died in Henrietta, New York, 29 August 1821.

2.  DANIEL FRANKLIN NICHOLS, born 24 November 1800 in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Married (1), ca. 1819, Lydia Bishop, daughter of Newman and Mary (Tuttle) Bishop. Moved to Napoli, Cattaraugus County, New York. Married (2) Sophronia Sperry in Westfield, Massachusetts.Died in Napoli, 26 April 1883.

3.  SOLOMAN FAIRCHILD NICHOLS, born 21 November 1830 in Napoli, New York. Married on 22 September 1852 Elvira Noble, daughter of Phineas F. and Alma (Stevens) Noble. Moved to Indian Creek, Washington County, Iowa, died there 19 June 1867.

4.  GEORGE TRUMAN NICHOLS, born 13 August 1863 in Napoli, New York. Moved to Iowa, then to Smith County, Kansas. Married, 31 August 1898, Wilhelmina (Mina) Gerstung, who was born in Germany to Karl and Anna (Rodiger) Gerstung. Died 15 January 1950, in Laramie, Wyoming.

            Children of George and Mina Nichols:

a)       Dean Gerstung Nichols, b. 18 June 1899, m. 11 June 1929 Eileen O’Mara, daughter of John Thomas and Elizabeth Jane (Pearce) O’Mara; d. 21 December 1988.  Children: George Truman Nichols [1933].

    5(b) Oscar Lee Nichols

5.  OSCAR LEE NICHOLS, born 5 July 1906, in Columbus, Ohio. Married Arveda Miller, daughter of George and Sarah (Adams) Miller. Died on 17 January 1967, age 60, in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
