1. George Nicholls, Sr., b. ca 1719, British Isles, d. After Aug 1772, SC. The name of George Nicholls is found in the 27 Dec 1742 issue of the South Carolina Gazzette; in a notice posted by Capt Charles Hardy. The notice advised that George Nicholls and 7 other seamen had deserted the British warship Rye about Christmas 1742. At the time the Rye was docked at Hobcaw Point above and across the Cooper River from Charleston, SC. George Nicholls obtained a land grant 16 Dec 1766 on the Saluda River (Newberry Co, SC) and another grant of 25 Aug 1772 in Camden District (probably Richland Co), SC. The historical facts as well as SC Colonial records, and early SC state records, provide compelling circumstantial evidence that George Nicholls was the LCA of the lineages represented in these experiments.
1A. George Nichols, Jr. b. ca 1755, SC., d. 1800 in Newberry Co, SC. Lived near Prosperity, SC. His children named in courthouse records.
1B. Luke Nichols b. ca 1797, SC, d. 22 Apr 1885, SC, buried with second wife Elizabeth Enlow in the St Luke Lutheran Church cemetery, Newberry Co, SC.
1BA. William Nichols, b. ca 1785, Newberry Co, SC. Moved with family to Perry Co, Al ca 1830. Buried with wife Barbara Hair in the Mt Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery, Perry Co, Al.
2A. Joseph Nichols, b. ca 1760, SC, d. 1809 in Newberry Co, SC. Lived near his brother George Nichols, Jr., (1A). Wife, Esther ______. His children are not named in Newberry Courthouse probate records.
2B. Luke Nichols (?), born 12 Sep 1808, d. 13 Nov 1882, SC. At present, thought to be a son of Joseph Nichols. Lived in Lexington Co, SC, near Leesville. Buried with wife Elizabeth Derrick in the Union Lutheran Church cemetery, Lexington County, SC.
3A. Father of Arthur Nichols. William Nichols (?) (In red, as he has not yet been proven. Currently, William is a conceptual name for the father of Arthur Nichols and a son of George Nicholls, Sr..
3B. Arthur Nichols, b. ca 1807, SC, died Perry Co, Al. He moved soon after 1830 from Kershaw Co, SC, to Perry Co, Al. Wife, Mary _______.
