1)     probably John Nichols, b. 1770s, came to Limestone Co., Alabama, by 1820s; died in Limestone Co., Alabama, in the 1830s.  There was also a Matthias Nichols born in 1790s of North Carolina found in 1850 census of Limestone County that may have been a son of his.

2)     unknown Nichols, probably born late 1790s of North Carolina; died between 1824 and 1830.  He was married to an Elizabeth born in 1799/1800 of North Carolina found in the 1830-1860 Census records of Limestone Co., Alabama.

3)     William Coffield Nichols, b. 20 April 1823, North Carolina; d. 8-Jan-1883, Athens, Limestone Co., Alabama.  He married 1) Polina E. Featherston (b: 20 JUL 1832 in Limestone County, Alabama; d. Feb 1862, Limestone Co., Alabama) and then 2) Elizabeth “Betty” Parham.  William and Betty had at least two sons:  1) Nicholas Richardson Nichols and 2) Robert Coffield Nichols.

4)     Nicholas Richardson Nichols, b. 9 Oct 1869, Limestone Co., Alabama; d. 17-Sep-1949, Athens, Alabama.  He married Maggie Sowell (born October 28, 1872, and died June 03, 1941) and they had the following children:

  1. Nicholas Richardson Nichols Jr..
  2. William Sowell Nichols.
  3. Robert Coffield Nichols.
  4. Mamie Elizabeth Nichols.
