7) John Nichols was born in 1698 in Caroline County, Virginal and he died on 22 Apr 1774 in Halifax County. Va. He married a Mary Owen  about 1719. They had 10 children: William, John Jr., Sarah, Elizabeth, Ambrose, Agnes Agathy, Nancy"Nanny", Byrd, David and Jesse. John was a land owner and had about 4500 acres in Halifax County, Va.

 

6) Jesse Nichols was born in 1740 in Halifax County, Virginia and he died 6 April 1805 in Elmwood, Smith County, Tenn. He married Lucy Mann in 1773 in Virginia. They had 15 children:Henry V., Robert, Phoebe, John Wilson, Mary, Sarah, William N., Jesse Junior, Byrd, Matthew, Lucy, Joel, Nancy, Elizabeth and James Matthew. All children born in Halifax County, Va. Jesse Nichols is my tie to the Sons of the American Revolution.

 

5) Jesse's son Matthew is my gggrandfather  was born 14 May 1790 in Halifax County, Va and who died in Elmwood, Smith County, Tenn. Bef 2 Jan 1859. He married Mary Warren on 24 Dec 1811. Their children were: Matilda, Moriah, Warren, Permelia, Martha, Joel M., Jesse, Ethelred, and William M Nichols.

 

4) William Marshall Nichols , my ggrandfather, was born 20 Sept 1830 in Smith County, Tenn. and  he died 10 April 1895 in Smith County, Tenn. He married Mariah Sadler on 13 Dec 1855 in Jackson County, Tenn., her home. They had the following children: Washington,Hugh, Willie Kade, Leona Cowan and Joe Cowan Nichols.

 

3) Joe Cowan Nichols is my grandfather who was born on 28 Oct 1868 in Smith County, Tenn. and died on 13 May 1951 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tenn. He married Willie Sue Moss on 29 Jun 1904 in Smith county, Tenn. They had one child Rhea Trousdale Nichols , my Father, who was born 22 Jul 1908 in Smith County, Tenn. and who died 9 Nov 1985 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tenn.
